The Story
The August Wilson African American Cultural Center is a performing arts and cultural institution in Downtown Pittsburgh named for the city's most celebrated playwright. The center opened in 2009 in a striking building designed by architect Allison Williams on Liberty Avenue.

The center's programming includes theatrical productions, concerts, film screenings, art exhibitions, and community events. It serves as a gathering place for Pittsburgh's African American community.
Named for the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who set nine of his ten plays in Pittsburgh's Hill District, the August Wilson Center carries forward Wilson's commitment to telling stories of the African American experience.
