The Story
Mineo's Pizza House has been a Squirrel Hill landmark since 1958, when Giovanni 'John' Mineo emigrated from Sicily and opened his pizza shop on Murray Avenue. Over six decades later, the shop remains family-owned and continues to serve the same style of pizza that made it famous.
The pizza at Mineo's is distinctly Pittsburgh: thick, cheesy, and unapologetically generous. Lines regularly extend out the door on Friday and Saturday nights, a testament to a recipe and a reputation that have endured for more than 65 years.
What Makes It Pittsburgh
The Mineo's versus Aiello's debate is one of Pittsburgh's great pizza rivalries, with both shops sitting within a block of each other on Murray Avenue. For Squirrel Hill residents, choosing a side is practically a rite of passage. Mineo's has been winning converts since Eisenhower was president.
