Armada Opens 90,000-Square-Foot Headquarters in Wexford, Tripling Its Pittsburgh Footprint

Pittsburgh has always been a city that builds things. For more than 135 years, Armada has been no different. On Tuesday, May 19, the supply chain giant cut the ribbon on its new headquarters at Innovation Ridge in Wexford — a gleaming, 90,000-square-foot campus that represents the company's most ambitious investment in the Pittsburgh region since its founding as a North Side meatpacker in 1890.

The move triples Armada's previous office footprint. The company had been operating out of roughly 15,000 to 20,000 square feet in Fox Chapel, a space that could no longer contain its ambitions. Now headquartered at 2000 Innovation Drive within the RIDC Innovation Ridge business park, Armada is initially occupying 65,000 square feet across three stories, with the remaining space held in reserve for the growth its leadership fully expects to come.

More than 300 Armada employees began reporting to the new campus this week under a hybrid schedule: three days in the office, two days remote. It marks a significant cultural shift for a company that had largely gone remote after the pandemic, with many workers coming in just five days a month. The new headquarters is designed to make that return feel less like a mandate and more like a reward.

The building's interior reflects that philosophy at every turn. Twenty-six conference rooms are distributed throughout the floors. Private phone and video booths offer quiet space for focused work. A massive training center anchors the first floor. Six treadmill desks line a sun-drenched window wall overlooking preserved wetlands and woodlands. Corner offices — typically reserved for executive suites in a previous corporate era — have been deliberately kept as shared conference rooms, giving the best views to collaboration rather than hierarchy.

A Company Built for the Next Chapter

Armada is more than a logistics company. It is Pittsburgh's third-largest privately held enterprise, trailing only Giant Eagle and 84 Lumber, and generated approximately $5.8 billion in revenue last year according to Forbes. In 2025, the company was named McDonald's U.S. Supplier of the Year, a recognition that underscores its central role in the food service supply chain across North America and beyond.

CEO Chris O'Brien sees the Wexford move as both a consolidation of that existing strength and a launch pad for expansion into new sectors. He has outlined plans to push Armada deeper into general manufacturing, the automotive industry, and Pittsburgh's fast-growing life science, health care, and robotics sectors. The Innovation Ridge location, with its proximity to key transportation corridors and the regional talent pipeline, is positioned to support that ambition.

NAI Burns Scalo served as general contractor for the project, keeping the construction work firmly in the Pittsburgh family. The development adds another anchor tenant to Innovation Ridge, a business park that has become one of the North Hills' most dynamic commercial addresses.

Armada's new headquarters arrives at a moment when Pittsburgh's major employers are collectively signaling something important: they are doubling down, not pulling back. Alongside recent office expansions from PNC, Highmark, and BNY, Armada's investment sends a clear message that the Pittsburgh region remains a destination for serious, long-term corporate commitment.

For Wexford and the North Hills corridor, the arrival of a company with Armada's scale brings an infusion of professional workers, daily foot traffic, and an institutional anchor that tends to attract further business investment.
