City's Edge is sculpting itself into the South Side Slopes. The mixed-use development on the 1400 block of Stevenson and Colwell is designed as a series of terraced buildings cascading down the hillside. Public steps—more than 700 of them—connect the various levels, creating a pedestrian network that activates the steep terrain. The views across the Mon to Downtown are panoramic.

The South Side Slopes has always been difficult to develop. The topography is challenging. Land costs are high. Access is complicated. City's Edge solves these problems by embracing the hill rather than fighting it. The terracing creates natural gathering spaces. The steps are public infrastructure. The development and the neighborhood become integrated.

Making Difficult Terrain Valuable

Steep hillsides are difficult to develop. They are also often undervalued because developers see them as problems rather than opportunities. City's Edge sees the topography as an asset. The steps create neighborhood identity. The views justify premium rents. The terrain becomes a selling point.

"The hill isn't a problem. It's what makes the South Side Slopes unique. We're building with it, not against it."

City's Edge Developer

The development is expected to include residential units, retail space, and public gathering areas. The public steps are free for anyone to use, making the entire hillside more accessible to the neighborhood.
