Pittsburgh's pre-Draft makeover is more than temporary beautification. Across Downtown—particularly on Liberty Avenue and Sixth Street—the city is making permanent improvements: new street lighting, facade restorations, pedestrian infrastructure, and public art installations. These are not decorations that disappear after April 25. They are permanent investments in Downtown's long-term appearance and functionality.

The NFL Draft has accelerated the timeline, but the work itself is about Downtown's future. Every improvement made now is an improvement that will still matter in five years. The message is: Pittsburgh is investing in itself because Pittsburgh believes in itself.

Infrastructure as Confidence

When a city makes permanent improvements in anticipation of an event, it is making a statement about belief in the future. Pittsburgh is saying: we believe people will still want to visit us after the Draft. We are improving our public spaces because they matter for who we are as a city, not just because the Draft is coming.

"Every improvement we make now is an improvement that stays. That's not temporary beautification. That's real investment."

Downtown Development Authority

The work is visible across the city. Scaffolding and construction equipment are everywhere. The disruption is temporary. The improvements are permanent.

Most improvements will be complete by April 18, leaving time for final touches before Draft week arrivals begin.
