The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh has opened a new interactive exhibition inspired by Mister Rogers, Daniel Tiger and Donkey Hodie. “It’s a Beautiful Day to Be You” debuted Oct. 3 and is scheduled to remain at the North Side museum through Jan. 3, 2027, before beginning a North American tour. The exhibition brings a Pittsburgh-created experience to local families first, and gives visitors a clear window to see it before it travels.

What children can do in the exhibit

The museum describes the exhibition as a play-based way for children to explore kindness, curiosity, persistence, creativity, collaboration and bravery. Rather than presenting those ideas only as words, the activities invite children to try them. In the Enchanted Garden, a visitor can pick and water a flower and watch it bloom. At Purple Panda’s Spaceship Dance Party, children push pegs, pull levers and press buttons to mix music. A Trolley tunnel links the Neighborhood of Make-Believe with Someplace Else, and its traffic signal asks children to wait their turn before following star lights through.

The settings combine characters and locations from the three programs while keeping the focus on participation. The museum’s official exhibit page lists the interactive activities and several monthly companion programs. On selected dates, families can encounter costumed characters, join art and making activities, and take a trolley ride. The next scheduled special date is Wednesday, Oct. 21; the page lists trolley rides from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. that day. Character appearances are listed for 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. on special-program dates, with limited, first-come tickets available in person.

How to plan a visit

The museum is at 10 Children’s Way in Allegheny Square. Its current published hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with some Wednesday closures; visitors should check the calendar before choosing a date. The exhibit is included with general admission, according to the museum. As of Oct. 11, the ticket page lists admission at $21 for adults, $19 for children ages 2–18 and adults 65 or older, and free for children under 2. An $8 admission rate is available after 3 p.m. in person, subject to special-event exceptions. Prices and availability can change, so confirm details before traveling.

The North Side opening is also the first stop for an exhibit designed to travel. Fred Rogers Productions’ announcement says the North American tour is scheduled to launch in January 2027, with venues confirmed through 2029. The museum and production company developed the experience together, with support from Lilly Endowment. That partnership extends Pittsburgh’s connection to Fred Rogers into a new format: a hands-on visit where children can practice the qualities his programs encouraged.

Why the Pittsburgh run matters

For families planning a museum day, the exhibition offers more than a character display: it gives children several ways to create, wait, experiment and work together. The Pittsburgh run lasts about three months before the planned tour begins. Check the museum’s event calendar for special-program availability and its ticket page for current admission details before setting out.
