The Story
Andrew Witchey founded Dancing Gnome Beer in 2016 with a laser focus on hop-forward ales. The brewery quickly became known for producing some of the best IPAs in the Mid-Atlantic, with can releases that sell out in hours and a taproom that draws lines on weekends.
Witchey's approach combines technical precision with creative ambition. Dancing Gnome's IPAs are consistently juicy, balanced, and expressive, and the brewery's seasonal and limited releases have become collector's items in the craft beer community.
Based in Sharpsburg alongside Hitchhiker Brewing, Dancing Gnome has helped transform the small borough into an unlikely craft beer destination.
What Makes It Pittsburgh
Dancing Gnome is arguably Pittsburgh's most nationally recognized brewery. Beer enthusiasts travel specifically to visit the Sharpsburg taproom, and the brewery's reputation has helped put Pittsburgh on the craft beer map alongside Portland, San Diego, and Asheville.
Witchey's commitment to keeping production local and focused, rather than chasing rapid expansion, is a very Pittsburgh approach to building a business.
