The Story
Threadbare Cider House & Meadery opened in 2017 on the North Side, becoming Pittsburgh's first dedicated cider house. Co-founders Brian Callahan and Erin MacManus craft a rotating lineup of hard ciders and meads using apples from Pennsylvania orchards. The production facility and taproom occupy a converted warehouse in Spring Garden, with a spacious outdoor patio.
What Makes It Pittsburgh
Threadbare's cider menu ranges from bone-dry heritage varieties to fruit-forward seasonal releases. The mead program is equally ambitious, with traditional honey meads, melomels (fruit meads), and barrel-aged special releases. The kitchen serves a full food menu designed to pair with the cider and mead selections.
Pittsburgh's craft beverage scene was heavily weighted toward beer before Threadbare arrived. The cidery proved there was strong demand for alternatives and helped diversify the city's drinking culture.
