Drivers using the Parkway East this weekend should check two separate construction windows before traveling. PennDOT has announced westbound lane restrictions beginning Friday night, October 16, plus a shorter restriction affecting both directions Saturday night into Sunday.

Nearby, Allegheny County has also announced reduced capacity on the Homestead Grays Bridge through Monday morning. These are lane restrictions, not announcements that either entire roadway will close. A trip using both corridors needs a check of both notices.

Westbound Parkway East: Friday night through Monday

PennDOT’s October 15 advisory schedules one westbound lane between Churchill, Exit 79B, and Edgewood/Swissvale, Exit 77, from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, October 19, weather permitting.

The continuous window includes daytime Saturday and Sunday. Drivers should not treat it as an overnight-only restriction that disappears each morning. If your weekend route uses this westbound stretch, allow flexibility in the departure time and check conditions before setting out.

Both directions: Saturday night into Sunday

A second Parkway East restriction allows a single lane in each direction as needed between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and Edgewood/Swissvale from 9 p.m. Saturday until noon Sunday. PennDOT says restrictions may end early if work finishes ahead of schedule.

The two Parkway windows cover different segments and directions. An eastbound trip may avoid the longer westbound restriction while still encountering the Saturday-night work. For a round trip, check the return leg separately rather than assuming the outbound conditions will apply in reverse.

Homestead Grays Bridge has a separate notice

The county’s Public Works notice, published October 14, schedules closure of two of the bridge’s four lanes from 9 p.m. Thursday, October 15, until 6 a.m. Monday, October 19. It identifies repairs to the spans, piers and deck.

That is the county’s announced window, rather than a guarantee of the precise configuration at the time you arrive. Follow current signs and crew directions on the bridge. An available crossing is not a promise of an unchanged travel time, and an alternate route should be checked for its own restrictions.

Check current conditions before leaving

PennDOT directs travelers to 511PA for current road conditions, including delay warnings, traffic speeds and cameras. Use those tools while planning; do not try to inspect a camera feed or change a route while driving.

These scheduled windows are useful starting points, not live reports of queue lengths. Check again close to departure, particularly if weather changes or your plans depend on the expected Monday reopening. Neither advisory supplies a guaranteed delay estimate for an individual trip.

For trips into Uptown, also review the separate Forbes Avenue paving and bus-stop notice through Saturday. Its intersection restrictions concern a different work area and should not be confused with the Parkway East lane reductions.
