Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling provides a regional drop-off route for materials that may not belong in an ordinary curbside recycling bin. A useful trip starts with matching the item to the correct collection rules, rather than assuming everything is accepted whenever the center is open.
This October 13, 2026 guide covers the established center in Greensburg using current official information. It distinguishes routine recycling, electronics, plastic film and household hazardous waste. These are the center’s published arrangements, not a replacement for a municipality’s separate collection contract.
Use the current Greensburg address and public hours
The official homepage lists the business office and recycling center at 355 Pleasant Unity Mutual Road, Greensburg, PA 15601. General-public hours are Monday, noon–5 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m.–1 p.m.; and the second Saturday each month, 8:30 a.m.–noon.
Large loads and commercial vendors require an appointment. Office hours vary, so an office enquiry is different from a confirmed drop-off window. Call 724-879-4020 or email info@westmorelandcleanways.org before a questionable load or a trip affected by weather. Our center profile links official information.
Check material exclusions and fees before loading
The recycling-center page excludes items including mattresses, carpet, upholstered furniture, window glass and mirrors. It also distinguishes ordinary batteries from accepted lead-acid batteries and directs other battery types to household hazardous-waste collection.
Published fees include $20 per refrigerant-containing appliance and $4 for an off-rim car or light-truck tire, or $5 on the rim. Routine fees can be paid by cash, check or debit/credit card. Confirm the item category and current fee, especially for unusual equipment or a mixed load.
The center asks visitors to pre-sort materials and take carrying totes home. It directs people not to leave items when closed. An after-hours arrival does not authorize leaving a load at the entrance.
Electronics are a separate category, with a handling exception
The electronics page lists consumer televisions, computers, monitors, laptops, printers, keyboards and cords among accepted items at no charge. The more detailed center page specifies a $25 unsafe-handling fee for disassembled or smashed CRT televisions and monitors.
Check that detailed list before interpreting the general free-electronics description. For a curbside alternative, contact your own municipality or hauler about availability, scheduling, restrictions and any fee; the center’s drop-off terms do not establish your household’s pickup entitlement.
Hazardous waste has specific days, staff and payment rules
The hazardous-waste page lists the first and third Wednesday each month, 8 a.m.–1 p.m., when partner Noble Environmental is on site. The published charge is eighty cents per pound, weighed there, with debit or credit cards only.
Containers must be five gallons or smaller. Cleanways staff cannot accept these materials outside the partner collection. Stay in the vehicle for unloading, and confirm acceptable items with Noble Environmental at 412-567-6566. The page lists prohibited materials, including pool chemicals, ammunition and medical waste.
Plastic film needs its own preparation
A July 30, 2026 update requires clean, dry bags and film without receipts, food residue or mixed recyclables. It sets a 250-pound maximum per load and asks people with large loads to call ahead. Check its accepted-film list before combining bags, shipping wrap or packaging for a trip.
