Murph’s Kitchen is operating inside Strange Roots Experimental Ales in Millvale, bringing a menu of sandwiches and comfort-food dishes to the brewery at 501 East Ohio Street. For a visit, the important distinction is between the restaurant’s food offerings and the taproom’s published hours and events.
This October 13, 2026 guide covers a business that opened earlier in the year. In her October 9 report for Pittsburgh Magazine, Kristy Graver dates Murph’s arrival at Strange Roots to July. She identifies executive chef Les Murphy and business partner Sarah Flora and reports that Murphy previously spent a dozen years at Bigham Tavern in Mount Washington.
What the kitchen serves
The restaurant’s official website confirms it is open for business and identifies handcrafted sandwiches, wings and flatbreads among its focus. Its currently published featured sandwiches illustrate the menu’s range without establishing that every item is available on every visit.
Murph’s Beef Stack combines braised beef, gouda, onion straws, garlic aioli and stout onion jam on ciabatta. The Reuben uses house-roasted corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing on pumpernickel. The Big Smash features two six-ounce ground-chuck patties with American cheese, caramelized onion, dressing and pickle on brioche.
Graver’s report also describes salads, soups, macaroni-and-cheese bowls and vegetarian and gluten-free options. Those categories do not establish allergen controls or suitability for a particular diet. Ask the kitchen about ingredients, substitutions and preparation before ordering when those details affect the meal.
Match the kitchen visit to the Millvale schedule
Strange Roots’ current website lists Millvale taproom hours as Tuesday through Friday, 4–10 p.m., and Saturday, noon–10 p.m. Murph’s own site separately announces Tuesday opening at 4 p.m. and Sunday closure. Do not apply another Strange Roots location’s Sunday hours to this kitchen.
The brewery’s Millvale listing advertises Wednesday trivia from 7–9 p.m. and Thursday wing night at 75 cents per wing. Weekday happy hour is listed from 4–6 p.m., with drafts at $5. These are posted offers, not a quoted total for dinner; confirm current conditions, food availability and kitchen last-order time before organizing a group around them.
Taproom closing time and the last opportunity to order a full meal are different planning questions. For a late arrival, ask specifically about the kitchen rather than assuming the entire menu remains available until the brewery closes.
Use the right location and food partner
The Millvale address is 501 East Ohio Street, PA 15209. Strange Roots describes its two taprooms as family- and dog-friendly, with indoor and outdoor seating. Confirm any seating restrictions or group arrangements directly instead of treating that description as a table reservation.
The brewery’s New Kensington location, at 977 Fifth Avenue, has a different restaurant partner: Common Oven Pizza Co. Its menu and schedule should not be used to plan a Murph’s meal in Millvale. Start with the Murph’s Kitchen profile for the restaurant’s official website and the brewery’s location information. This guide reports published information; it does not claim a personal meal, an independent award or an October opening.
