Monday, October 19, is Pennsylvania’s deadline to register or update a registration for the November 3 general election. Pittsburgh and Allegheny County residents using the online application have until 11:59 p.m.; paper and in-person applications follow county office hours.
The Department of State’s 2026 election calendar distinguishes the online cutoff from physical office closing times. The later online deadline should not be treated as an extension of the time available to deliver a paper application.
Check an existing registration first
The state’s registration-status page links to its official lookup service. Residents can use that resource to check the record rather than relying on an old card or a reminder message.
According to the state’s registration instructions, someone already registered in Pennsylvania does not need to register again unless updating an address, name or party affiliation. People who recently moved should review the address on file. The same official application supports both registration and updates.
Use the official application and complete submission
The registration instructions link directly to the state application. Have a Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID available if you have one. The state also describes signature options for applicants without those documents; read the instructions for the method you select.
Opening the form or beginning to type does not complete an application. Review the required fields, follow the signature instructions and complete the submission process. Keep any confirmation or application reference the system provides so you can follow up with election officials if needed.
The county reviews applications after submission. A submitted application should not be described as an immediate guarantee that the registration record has already been updated. If a result or instruction is unclear, use the state or county’s official assistance options.
Allegheny County’s daytime registration service
The county’s election-updates page lists voter-registration service in County Office Building Room 326 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 19. That is a separate service window from the 11:59 p.m. online cutoff. Check the county’s current instructions before traveling.
For anyone considering mailing a paper form on the deadline, the state calendar says mailed registration applications must be received by the county registration commission by the deadline. Do not assume that putting a form in the mail today is equivalent to timely receipt.
Registration and ballot requests have different deadlines
The state calendar separately lists October 27 as the deadline to apply for a civilian absentee or mail-in ballot, with applications due at 5 p.m. November 3 is Election Day. Those later dates do not replace today’s registration deadline.
Use the linked official pages for eligibility requirements, application instructions and contact information. This notice supplies the published deadlines and service links; election officials make decisions on individual applications.
