Four Pittsburgh recreation centers are offering free childcare with lunch on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, while other Citiparks facilities have closures or reduced services. Families and older adults should check their particular center before making a trip: today’s arrangements differ by location.

The city announced the changes on October 30. This is a same-day service notice for November 3, not a new permanent childcare program or a change to regular schedules for the rest of the week.

Four centers offer childcare

According to the official city announcement, Ammon Community Recreation Center, Jefferson Recreation Center, Magee Recreation Center and Ormsby Community Recreation Center are opening at 8:30 a.m. to help families while Pittsburgh Public Schools are closed for Election Day. Childcare is free, and lunch is provided.

Families are asked to register children directly with the recreation center they plan to attend. The city says registration helps staff prepare meals, activities and staffing. Contact the intended center before relying on a place; the announcement does not establish a guaranteed available space for every family.

The release does not specify an age range, a closing time or pickup requirements. Ask the center about those details when registering, including whether it can accommodate the hours your family needs. An 8:30 a.m. opening should not be treated as confirmation of an unspecified evening pickup time.

Recreation and senior-center changes

Arlington, Brookline, Paulson, Phillips, Warrington and West Penn recreation centers are listed as closed for Election Day. These are separate from the four locations offering childcare.

Beechview, Greenfield and Hazelwood Healthy Active Living senior centers are also listed as closed. Washington, Sheraden and South Side Healthy Active Living centers are providing lunch service only, with their regular activities suspended for the day.

The city says all other Citiparks Recreation and Healthy Active Living senior centers will follow normal schedules. If you normally attend a class or group activity, distinguish a fully closed location from a lunch-only location when checking today’s plans.

Voting and ballot-return reminders

Allegheny County’s General Election Day notice lists polling hours as 7 a.m.–8 p.m. and says voters in line at 8 p.m. may vote. Check your assigned polling place through the state polling-place lookup before leaving; a familiar recreation center is not automatically your assigned voting location.

The county says completed mail-in and absentee ballots must be received by 8 p.m. today, and a completed ballot cannot be dropped off at a polling place. Ordinary voters may only return their own ballot. Use the county’s ballot-return information for the designated location and hours. A childcare registration or center visit is separate from casting or returning a ballot.
