Pittsburgh Regional Transit has announced two separate rail interruptions for October 23–26. Its weekend closure notice gives different transfer arrangements for each work window, with delays of up to 20 minutes.

Downtown: Friday night through Sunday morning

Service between First Avenue and Steel Plaza will stop after Friday's service ends, resuming at the start of service Sunday, October 25. Replacement buses will connect First Avenue Station with Ross Street at Steel Plaza. A rail shuttle will connect Steel Plaza and Allegheny. PRT says stations remain accessible and staff will assist transfers at Steel Plaza.

Mt. Washington Tunnel: Sunday evening

The tunnel will close from 5 p.m. Sunday, October 25, until Monday's service begins. Rail service will detour through Allentown; a separate shuttle will connect Station Square's outbound platform with Allegheny. Buses will detour too, generally inbound through Allentown and outbound through Wabash.

Check both legs of a weekend trip

A Saturday outing and a Sunday evening return should not be planned as if they face the same interruption. Before leaving, match your travel date and direction to the relevant notice. Note the station where you expect to change vehicles and check the return journey separately, especially if it crosses the Sunday evening changeover.

Use the official schedule finder, which separates bus, light-rail and incline schedules. Its rail listings identify Blue Line service via Overbrook, Red Line service via Beechview and Silver Line service to Library via Overbrook. Those route names can help you select the right schedule when asking about a trip, rather than treating every service change as interchangeable.

A regular timetable is only one part of a disrupted journey. Compare it with the closure notice before deciding where to wait or transfer. If an appointment has a fixed arrival time, leave room for the additional interchange rather than relying only on the scheduled departure at your starting stop.

Resolve transfer questions before heading out

PRT lists telephone help at 412-442-2000, with weekend hours of 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Its website also lists weekend live chat from 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Check the agency's current information if you need help outside those hours.

When asking for assistance, give your starting stop, destination, direction and intended travel time. If a particular transfer or access arrangement affects whether you can make the journey, ask about that detail explicitly.
