Opafe Bakery has begun welcoming customers at SouthSide Works, while a separate city filing documents an Opa Fé proposal for Downtown Pittsburgh. The two addresses describe different projects. Readers planning a pastry stop should distinguish the reported South Side opening from the earlier Downtown development paperwork.

This October 13, 2026 status guide uses the bakery’s public announcements, dated local reporting, the property directory and a city-hosted applicant packet. It does not establish that the Downtown café has opened, and it treats proposed construction milestones separately from confirmed operations.

South Side announcements describe a phased opening

In a September 20 operator post, shared with SouthSide Works, Opafe announced a soft opening starting the following Monday. The post described a limited menu while the team commissioned kitchen equipment and refined service, with official grand-opening hours to be announced later. The September announcement therefore described a staged start, rather than the launch of a fully settled service schedule.

An October 1 bakery post subsequently described pastries, housemade desserts and lunch offerings being served. These operator updates support treating the South Side business as operating, while avoiding the assumption that the initial soft-opening selection or schedule remains unchanged.

Patch’s September 28 report, updated October 1, identifies the bakery at 2720 Sidney Street in a 4,200-square-foot space and names Opal Group as the company behind it. The report describes croissants and laminated pastries alongside matcha, fruit and milk teas, and coffee. Those categories are useful background, not a promise that an individual pastry is available for every visit.

A property directory still needs careful reading

The SouthSide Works directory still places a “Coming Soon” label beneath the Opafe logo. That conflicts with the later operator service announcement and dated opening report. Use the bakery’s current updates to confirm the visit window rather than relying on that directory label alone.

The original soft-opening post specifically directed readers to social media for hours and updates. A forecast of a summer opening, an early limited-menu announcement and a later operating post answer different questions; none by itself establishes today’s full menu, holiday schedule or pickup arrangements.

The 800 Penn Avenue packet is a separate proposal

A city-hosted Historic Review Commission applicant packet, filed under BDA-2026-00363, describes an Opa Fé Downtown flagship at 800 Penn Avenue. It identifies Opal Group as developer and proposes converting part of the ground floor at Press House Apartments into a café, with basement storage.

The packet describes 2,115 square feet on the ground floor and roughly 900 square feet of unfinished basement. Its access proposal separates building-tenant and retail-customer entrances, with black aluminum doors and matching trim. These are applicant descriptions of proposed work, not evidence of completed construction or verified accessibility at an operating café.

A presentation timeline includes an August 6 grand-opening target, but a planned milestone is not confirmation that an opening occurred. No current Downtown operating announcement was established in this check. Our South Side bakery profile preserves the source links; confirm the address, current hours and selected items together before traveling.
